Capital Yachts Corporation was founded when Jon Williams and Bill Smith bought only the tooling of the Newport Fleet from Elgin National Industries, (a New York based firm). Together, with the aid of designers Gary Mull and Cuthbertson & Cassian, they formed a new and updated fleet of Newport sailboats which were manufactured at their plant in Harbor City, California.
